Thomas Scott Whittier

Thomas Scott Whittier, 80, of Rochester, NH, passed peacefully in hospice care at Portsmouth Regional Hospital on February, 10, 2026 in the presence of his family.

Tom and his twin brother, John, were born on June 5, 1945 to Frances (Haley) and Scott Wilbur Whittier in Rochester. He was a proud graduate of Somersworth High School, Class of 1963, and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Air Force, with service in Japan and the Philippines.

In 1991, Tom married Lisa Cayhao of Iligan City, Philippines in the presence of her family. Lisa immigrated to the United States in 1992 to start a family together with Tom. Tom and Lisa had two children, Crystal Whittier, born 1993, and Ryan Whittier, born 2001.

He began his career working for Channel 11 and then moved on to run the Scenic theater in Rochester as well as the drive-in movie theater in Somersworth alongside a close friend. After the theater closed, Tom worked in several local print shops before eventually taking a position as a Mail Clerk with the Visa Office.

Tom loved to explore, even enjoying getting a little lost along the way. He treasured traveling with his family to the beaches of Maine and throughout the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. Though quiet and reserved by nature, Tom was deeply generous. He had a special talent for finding great deals on clothing, often buying in bulk so he could send items to his wife's family in the Philippines. Tom supported Lisa's family with gifts and funds so that they could pursue higher education and enjoy lots of food for holiday celebrations.

Thomas was predeceased by his parents, Frances and Scott W. Whittier and his older brother, Lawrence Whittier.

He is remembered by his wife, Lisa Whittier of Rochester; his daughter, Crystal Whittier and her husband, Paul Kasper, of Vermont; his son, Ryan Whittier of Rochester; his brothers John and Roland Whittier of Rochester; and his sister Jayne Harriman and her husband Ken Harriman of Saco, with their son and Tom's nephew, James Arlemagne; as well as extended family and friends, here and abroad.

Friends and family are invited to visit on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover, NH. Military Honors and a Funeral Service will follow immediately at 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Tom will be laid to rest in the spring.
