John J. Goodrow

John J. (Polverari) Goodrow, 79, of Mahopac, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at home with his family by his side. He was born in Mount Kisco, NY on September 20, 1942, the son of Marguerite (Maddock) and Geno Polverari. After Geno was killed in WWII, John was adopted by beloved Willis Goodrow.
John graduated from Fox Lane High School in 1961. He was discharged Honorably from the US Army after serving in Vietnam. John, along with his wife Eileen, was the owner of Goodrow Fuel in Mahopac.
John was a member of the Bedford Hills Volunteer Fire Department where he served as an Assistant Chief before moving to Mahopac in 1971. Later on he joined the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department where he is a life member. He served for many years as a Commissioner of the Department.
John was a member of the Hudson Valley Volunteer Fireman's Association and the Putnam County Volunteer Fireman's Association. He was a member of VFW Post 5491 and American Legion Post 1080, both in Mahopac.
On July 3, 1965 he married Eileen MacPhee of Mt. Kisco. In addition to Eileen, he is survived by his sons, John J. Goodrow Jr. (Christine) and Ronald A. Goodrow (Denise), all of Mahopac. He was the proud Papa of 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived his sister, Beverly Rosa (John) of Danbury, CT. and his brother-in-law, Richard Dingee of Ridgefield, CT. He was predeceased by his sister Valerie G. Dingee and his parents, Marguerite and Willis Goodrow.
Visiting will be held on Sunday, January 9 from 2-6 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. Private cremation services will follow.
