John Bartholomew Grannan, III
December 2, 1969 – April 21, 2025
John Bartholomew Grannan, III, 55, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025, at a local hospital. He was born in Evansville, Indiana, to John and Evelyn Grannan. John John had Down Syndrome. He was the most caring, loving, sweet person that anyone could meet. John John graduated from Brainerd Senior High School and the family referred to him as Doctor Doolittle because he related to animals in a way that most people could not. He was always very outgoing and sociable. He was always ready to get out and go somewhere. He loved going to Applebee's in Fort Oglethorpe. John John was the middle child and he dearly loved his sisters and his sisters adored him! For years, John John enjoyed the Special Olympics and bowling. With both activities, he went to state competitions. His bowling team was The Super Stars. He won many trophies and plaques over the years. One time, he made a seven-and-ten split conversion for a spare. He did not understand this complexity; he was only happy that he had made a spare.
The family is deeply grateful to Memorial Hospital MICU and Erlanger MICU for their exceptional care of John John. Their dedication and compassion made a significant difference in his life.
John John is preceded in death by his father, John Bartholomew Grannan, Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Evelyn Grannan of Chattanooga, Tennessee; sisters, Anna Marie (Bob) McPeak of Hixson, Tennessee, and Roberta Lynn (Terry) Watson of LaFayette, Georgia; nephew, Jacob McPeak of Hixson, Tennessee; niece, Emily McPeak of East Ridge, Tennessee; and many uncles, aunts, and cousins
The family has arranged a time to remember and honor John John. We eagerly look forward to sharing our memories of him with friends and family on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The funeral service, a time to celebrate John John's life, will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with Father Mike Creson officiating. Your prayers and support during this difficult time are deeply appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to Chattanooga Down Syndrome Society or the Chattanooga Humane Society.
