John Green of Reading passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025. He was 89 years of age.
Born on Sunday, November 17, 1935 in Boston, John was the loving son of the late William A. Green and Gertrude (Millar) Green. John was a warm, kind, gentle & loyal son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed.
John worked for HP Hood and Sons. He was a detective with the Reading Police Department for 12 years. During the Korean Conflict, John proudly defended our freedom by serving in the United States Marine Corps as a Private First Class. John started and opened the Reading Mass Town Employees Federal Credit Union in 1975 and ran it successfully until he retired in 2012.
John was the beloved husband of Barbara (Conti) Green. He was the devoted father of Kathleen Green, John A. Green and his wife Sandra and the late James M. Green. The cherished grandfather of Alexandra Helmuth and her husband Erik, Gregory Green, Anthony Green and Daniel Green, John was the doting great grandfather of Ophelia and Ford. He was the dear brother of the late Michael T. Green and his late wife Kathleen, the late Gail Sammett and the late William Green.
Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with John’s Family on Friday, September 19th from 4-7pm in the Doherty – Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden Street READING. Parking attendants and elevator are available.
A Funeral Service Celebrating John’s Eternal Life will be held on Saturday, September 20th at 10am in the Funeral Home.
