John Hake Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harder Funeral Home - Brookfield on May 7, 2024.
John P. Hake, age 83, of Richfield, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024.
John was born on April 12, 1941 in Racine, where he grew up and found his love for Kewpee's burgers and O&H kringle. John loved nothing more than visiting with family and friends retelling stories from his childhood. If you spent a Holiday with him, you were sure to hear about how he cut off the cat's whiskers or most definitely about the time where he burned down the chicken coop. He also liked to sprinkle in tales from his college days at UW-Madison and let's not forget how he turned around his bad habits in his first year of college to graduate and become a successful accountant.
John was a dog lover. He surrounded himself with photos of his grand-dogs, neighbor's dogs, and friend's of his children's dogs. He always had treats at the ready for any dog that might happen to visit.
In his younger years, John enjoyed playing dartball and re-found his passion to play and coach in his 60s, which led to various tournaments and trophies that he proudly displayed by his fireplace. Later in life John found true companionship with his sheepshead crews at a variety of senior centers in the area where he spent many days and hours sometimes winning, sometimes losing, but always enjoying his time with friends.
John is survived by his children Brian Hake (Linda), Michelle Hake (Rick Dorgay) and grandchildren, Jackson and Eliza. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Del McClure, Jim Capaccio and other family members and close friends.
John is preceded in death by his wife Carol, his parents, Paul and Belva and sister Marie McClure.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 from 9 AM until time of service at 11AM at Harder Funeral Home, 18700 W Capitol Dr, Brookfield, WI 53045.
In lieu of flowers memorials are appreciated to Senior Friends, Inc. part of the Hartford Senior Center.
