Family
John was preceded in death by his wife Pauline (Jones) Hale, his parents Prentice Hale and Greta (Calvert) Hale Bowersox, and his sister A. Suzanne (Hale) Shields. He is survived by his children Melissa (Steve) Muhlbaier of Sewell NJ, Jennifer (Paul) Dulebohn of Atlantic Beach FL, John (May) Hale of Fox Island WA, step-daughter Dawn Ann (Dave) Pizzo of Glendora NJ, his niece Karen (Karen) Shields, grandchildren: Matthew (Nicole), Madison, and Mitch Muhlbaier, Haley and Gavin Dulebohn, Griffin and Lachlan Hale, Amber (Ricardo) Aguilar, Vincent Salvatore Pizzo, and a great grandson Finn Aguilar, also survived by former wife Shirlene (Magee) O'Neill.
Legacy
John was born in Sturgeon Bay, WI and in 1944 his family relocated to Woodbury Heights, NJ where he grew up and then raised his own family. He was a graduate of Woodbury High and the University of Florida where he was awarded an athletic scholarship for both football and track & field. He was coached by UF's legendary Percy Beard and was very proud of his long standing UF javelin record. He was honorably discharged from the US Air Force officer training center.
He began his career as a teacher at JMT School in Mantua, then changed fields and was successful in optical medical equipment sales with various companies, including Bausch & Lomb. He later returned to teaching, where he retired from the South Camden Alternative School. He was a lifelong Eagles fan and loved jazz music.
Tribute
Private services will be held at a later date with burial in Wisconsin.
