Thomas Cullen Maguire, 75, of Dumont, New Jersey passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Community Hospice in Fernandina Beach, Florida.
Born on July 28, 1950, in Teaneck, New Jersey to the late John Maguire and Marie Bruno. He grew up in Dumont, New Jersey and graduated from Dumont High School in 1968. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for four years. After completing his service, he went on to attend Gulf Coast Community College, and later graduated from University of Florida with a masters degree in nuclear engineering.
After graduation, Tom began working for EG&G in Maryland and then moved on to start his career, as a senior scientist, working for the Federal Government. Throughout his distinguished career, he was able to travel the world, pursue his love of science and make many lasting friendships.
Tom had many hobbies but one of his true loves was sailing. Relocating to Fernandina Beach, owning a sailboat, and being an active member of the Amelia Island Sailing Club were some of his greatest joys.
Tom is survived by his wife, Janet, of 54 years, his daughter Erin Maguire, of Ashburn, VA and his daughter Kelly Greene and her husband Ryan Greene of Fernandina Beach, FL. He is also survived by a host of cousins and many dear friends.
To remember Tom, the family will be hosting a Celebration of Life on Amelia Island with details to follow via Social Media.
Donations in his memory may be made to the St. Mary's River Keeper, in honor of the water sampling program which Tom was an active part of for many years.
