Barry I. Meyer, 72, passed away unexpectedly at his residence in Leland, NC, the morning of September 3, 2025. Barry was born in Brooklyn, NY, where he grew up until the passing of his father at age 7. He and his mother eventually moved to Sarasota, FL. He graduated from Riverview High School in 1970 and from the University of Florida in 1974.

Most of his working career was with the American Greetings Corporation as an Area Supervisor and Direct Import Manager. He retired after serving 30 years.

Barry was an avid sports enthusiast. And, as of August 2, 2025, he was proud to say he had attended sporting events in 301 stadiums within the U.S. & Canada. His other passions were extensive traveling, including in May of 2025, visiting the last U.S. state capital in MN to complete his list of 50. He also enjoyed live theatre, good food, wine & beer. He was a volunteer teacher with Junior Achievement of America when living in FL, an Ambassador volunteer at the Wilmington, NC airport, as well as holding various offices with several social clubs where he resided.

Barry is survived by his wife of 32 years, Gail (nee Russler), son, Kevin (Shelby) of Pleasant Hill, CA, and granddaughter, Rayla.

Funeral services and interment took place in Briones, CA.

Barry's family entrusted his local care to Wilmington Funeral and Cremation, 1535 S. 41st Street, Wilmington, NC 28403.
