John Hall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Riggs Funeral Home, LLC. - Forked River on Mar. 10, 2026.
John T. Hall of Waretown, NJ passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9th, 2026. He was 93 years old. John was born and raised in Waretown attending Waretown Elementary school and Barnegat High School, graduating in1950. Shortly after Graduation John enlisted in the United States Navy and married his high school sweetheart Audrey Bridger.

He served 23 years in the Navy as they lived throughout the United States at various duty stations. John was very proud of his military career serving in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in Korea. However, this was something that he never spoke about. He would simply say "he was in the wrong place at the wrong time" and leave it at that.

John was equally proud of all his duty stations, but there were some that stood out more than others. As an E9 Master Chief Petty Officer, John often had command responsibilities and duties. He was the officer in charge of his department while stationed at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland. He was also in a command position while assigned to the Hospital Ship USS Sanctuary during the Vietnam war. And his final command position was that of overseeing his department at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital. He retired from the Navy in 1973.

Upon retiring from the Navy, John and Audrey returned to Waretown, and John entered the Real Estate Business. His Real Estate career spanned several decades working with many prominent agencies such as Hall Realty, Century 21, and G. Anderson Agency. Eventually John retired from the Real Estate Business, and he and Audrey purchased their final piece of property in Waretown. This is where he built their retirement home; by coincidence it just happened to be next to the house that John was actually born in. Talk about life coming full circle!

Whether he was known to you as Pop, Papa John, Dad, or even just John, he was always there when needed. He was actively involved in sports, scholastics or otherwise. He was always there for the football games, baseball games, and wrestling matches. He supported his sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in whatever they chose to take part in. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, skiing, it didn't matter he just wanted to be part of it.

John was predeceased by his wife Audrey as well as his siblings Kenneth, Ebert, Elisabeth, and parents John and Edna Hall. Surviving are his three sons, David, Donald and Florence, and Daniel. Five grandchildren, Jason and Megan, Jesse, Daniel and Logan, Amber and William, and Luke. Seven great grandchildren, Ella, Ryan, Hali, Ada, Travis Sloane, and Grace. And most of all, his best friend, late in life partner, and travel companion, Mary Burke. Without Mary these last years would have been nearly impossible.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Waretown First Aid Squad or the Waretown Fire Department in support of the town that John loved.
