Mr. John A Hankins, 83 of Fleming Island, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023. Mr. Hankins was born October 4, 1939 in Draper, North Carolina to parents Orion E. and Prudence Hazel (Craig) Hankins. John served in the United States Navy for 30 years and was a successful business owner. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Hibernia Baptist Church of Fleming Island. He loved fishing, gardening, church and fellowship, was a Gator booster, enjoyed reading western novels and most of all, loved his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Chitwood and grandson, Dathan W. Goodwin. Survivors are his wife of 64 years, Stella (Powell) Hankins of Fleming Island, his children, Cynthia Goodwin (Kenneth) of Orange Park, John David Hankins (Dawn) of Throop, PA, and grandchildren, Jennifer Hamilton (Erik) of Jacksonville, Ashley Goodwin of Jacksonville and John C. Hankins of Throop, PA. Graveside services will be held at Jacksonville Memory Gardens with military honors. Services times will be announced in the near future.
