John “Johnny” Wayne Hazelwood, 75, of Mount Airy, NC, passed away October 26, 2025, at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Born June 6, 1950, to the late Robert and Irene Matthews Hazelwood. Johnny owned and operated Johnny’s Wrecker Service for roughly 30 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. His true pride and joy were his grandbabies and great grandbabies. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Carolyn Shockley Hazelwood; daughter, Misty Scritchfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Dillon Shockley and Sarah, Johnny Lee Hazelwood and Tara, Chad Hazelwood, and Tony Hazelwood and Tammy; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; son-in-law, Ryan Embry; sisters and brother-in-law, Penny Freeman, and Barbara Willard and Richard; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie Hazelwood and Renita; and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Embry; 2 angel grandbabies; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Hazelwood; sisters, Frances Holder, and Catherine Glass; and brother, Robert Hazelwood Jr. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 1, 2025. A funeral service will take place at 1:00 PM in the Moody-Davis Funeral Home Chapel, Saturday, November 1, 2025. Burial will follow in the Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice and Beth Freeman for all their care during this difficult time. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson, NC is serving the Hazelwood family.
