John F. Hertz, Sr., age 82 of Long Beach, passed away Monday, July 17, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Judy S. Hertz; and his parents, Warren and Leotha Hertz.
John is survived by his children, Belinda Jane Clements (John), John Hertz, Jr. (Deidra), Lee D. Hertz (Betsy), Michael Hertz, and Carly Hertz Parker (Ben); brother, Warren R. Hertz (Peggy); and grandchildren, Morgan Hertz, Nicholas Hertz, Kennedy Hertz, Madison Clements, Larkin Parker, Finn Parker, and Graham Parker.
John was a native of New Orleans, LA and a current resident of Long Beach, MS. He graduated in 1958 from West Jefferson High School in Gretna, LA and then in 1978 from Loyola University with a bachelor’s in business. John was a retired Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy. He retired from Dupont after 28 years.
He was a devoted Saints fan starting November 1, 1966, and continued suffering for 43 years until the elusive 2010 Super Bowl win and continued until his death. He was a vintage car enthusiast that rebuilt cars with his son. The very first one they rebuilt was a 1951 Mercury. John was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Disabled American Veterans Charity, at https://help.dav.org or the Humane Society of South Mississippi, 2615 25th Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39501.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 21, 2023, from 1:30 pm - 2 pm at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach, MS 39560. The funeral service will be at 2 pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be private in Biloxi National Cemetery.
