Eleanor Sims Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 18, 2025.

Eleanor Sims of Long Beach, MS passed away on July 30, 2025. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She had a strong abiding faith for her Lord and Savior. Her many friends and family mourn her passing after a short illness.

Eleanor Sims was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of Eleanor and Austin Ericsson. She graduated from Germantown High School, and attended Philadelphia College of Bible. In 1959, she married John Sims who preceded her in death in 2006. Eleanor worked in management as a forecaster for Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania for ten years. The couple moved to Westmont, New Jersey to raise their children, all of whom survive her: Robin Sims, Jennifer Butler (Robert), Jonathan Sims, and David Sims (Jennifer). As a Nana, she counted among her most treasured blessings her ten grandchildren: Sean Sims; Dylan Sims; Emily Sims; Kaitlyn Forester; Nancy Butler; Megan Butler; Jamie Fitzgerald; Evan Fitzgerald; Grace Sims; Henry Sims. She is also survived by four great grandchildren.

Eleanor devoted her life to her faith, her family, and her church. She was an active member of Haddon Heights Baptist church for 60 years where she taught VBS and Sunday school. She was a long-time member of the choir, and she will be especially remembered as a member of the Ladies' trio. She organized countless church activities, and delivered thousands of meals. She was a member of the missionary committee, and was the banquet chairwoman for many events. Eleanor also served on the Baptist High School board. She was a true servant! Later she joined First Baptist Church of Long Beach.

Eleanor Sims was a devotee of music and supporter of the fine arts; she loved the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Walnut Street Theatre, the Philadelphia Flower Show and Longwood Gardens. Eleanor loved spending summers in Ocean City with her family, and traveling with her friends. She filled her time with antique shopping, reading, entertaining, estate sales, craft fairs, and board games. With her sister Nancy, they toured many malls in the Northeast. Eleanor was known for her sense of humor and fashion.

Eleanor is survived by her sister Nancy Kulis and her brother Edward Pollitt (Debbie) and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

The memorial will take place on November 1, 2025 at Haddon Heights Baptist Church at 11 a.m. , Haddon Heights, New Jersey.
