Born in Baltimore, MD, on October 16, 1951, he was the son of the late William Everett and Mary Jewel (Burns) Hidey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, W. Stevens Hidey; aunt Nora Lee Valentine and husband Don; uncle John "Pat" Burns and wife Daisy; father and mother-in-law, Owen and Mildred (Valentine) Williams.
Bob was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1969. Following high school, Bob began his radio career at WCUM as a Disc Jockey "spinning rock-n-roll records for the Cumberland listening area". Later, he was employed at WTBO, and he ended his radio career at WCBC with his own show.
After leaving radio, Bob was employed in advertising sales for TCI in Cumberland. He became the advertising sales manager at TCI/Comcast Media, and his career there spanned 23 years. In 2012, Bob continued his career as national sales manager with Suddenlink in Parkersburg, West Virginia until he retired in 2017. Recently, Bob had been cohosting a podcast called, "Boomers and More" with his lifelong friend, Randy Kendrick.
Bob was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. There, he was the chairman of the Staff Parish Relation Committee and a member of the church choir in which he delighted in singing solos. He was a member of the advisory board of the Salvation Army, where he had served as board president. Currently, he was the Chairman of the Fort Hill High School Scholarship Committee, and a member of the South Cumberland Business and Civic Association.
Bob is survived by his wife of 34 years, together for 42 years, Debra "Debbie" (Williams) Hidey; son, John Robert "Robbie" Hidey II, and wife, Harleigh; daughter Mary Hidey and fiancé, Aaron Brown; granddaughter Amyra Brown, who was his pride and joy and his "pretty little angel eyes"; Aaron's daughter, Arianna Brown; goddaughter, Kiley Cohen. Bob is also survived by several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 3-7 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 11 A.M. with Rev. Harold McClay officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Burial Park.
Bob's concern lately has been staying safe from COVID19. To honor his concern for others, the family kindly requests to please wear a mask when visiting the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the UPMC Western Maryland Emergency Department for everything they did for Bob on Saturday: Dr. Robbins for his urgent concern and care; Dr. Shafiei for his valiant efforts to save Bob; Dr. Cooper for his kind and calming manner; Nurse Annette who lovingly and compassionately cared for Bob all day and then kindly and sweetly spent time with Debbie; all the others whose names we do not know; and Chaplain Rusty Kitzmiller. Your loving care, kindness, and compassion will be remembered.
"But of all these friends and lovers, there is no one compares with you. And these memories lose their meaning, when I think of love as something new. Though I know I'll never lose affection for people and things that went before, I know I'll often stop and think about them. In my life, I love you more.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fort Hill Scholarship Committee, 500 Greenway Ave, Cumberland, MD 21502.
