John (AKA Jack) Hieronymus, from Lee County, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2024, in his Carmel, IN home. His children and the Community North Hospice Team worked together to ensure he was comfortable and well looked after.
He was born on the Riverview Farm, the 12th child of Charles and Kathrine Hieronymus, on February 19, 1922. He married Florence A. Mazneff in Detroit, MI on June 17, 1949. John was a graduate from Lee County Consolidated High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Michigan State University. In between high school and MSU, he worked at Ford Motor’s Willow Run Bomber Plant, served in the U.S. Air Force in the Pacific, and sold produce through a truck farm.
Following completion of his degree, Jack started his career in Life Insurance sales with Equitable Life Assurance, completed his CLU designation, and rose from sales, district and eventually agency management in 34 years and retired in Carmel, IN. He then joined the Business School at Butler University and implemented a very successful Cooperative Education program that was recognized nationally. In his spare time, he enjoyed farming, raising Rocky Mountain Walking Horses, traveling and fishing in Canada.
After 20 years at Butler, he retired a second time and shifted his attention to spending time with kids and grandkids. He is survived by daughter, Patty MacDonald, and son, John C. Hieronymus, Grandson Jack Hieronymus, Granddaughter Anna Hieronymus, Great Granddaughters Sophia Hieronymus, Laura Hieronymus and Caleb, his Black Lab.
His secret to a long and prosperous life, “Always be first in the Chow line.”
A Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held June 15, 2024, at the Gray Friends Church, 4810 East 146th Street, Westfield, IN, from 4:00PM to 7:00PM.
