John O. Hobel

John O. Hobel, 71, of Rockford, IL passed suddenly Saturday, May 20, 2023. John was born August 26, 1951, in Rockford to his parents, James Hobel, Sr. and Gertrude Hobel (Davison). John married the love of his life, Sarah Hobel (Newman) on October 2, 2004. John was a longtime employee of the US Postal Service. An important part of John's life was being a Charter Member of Kepotah Sportsman's Club, and the YMCA Billiard's Club. He dedicated his time with both those organizations. So much so that they became like his family. John was an avid sports enthusiast. He loved trap shooting, fishing, golfing, and playing Cribbage. Helping friends was important to him. He will be dearly missed by so many.
Survived by his siblings, Julie Hobel and James Hobel Jr.; brother- in- law, Robert Bruski; sister- in- law, Mary Bruski; mother-in-law, Ann Newman; step-children, Elizabeth (Brian) Berridge and Jennifer (Emil) Wisdom; step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; many beloved friends and family. Preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Hobel; parents, James Hobel Sr. and Gertrude Hobel; siblings, Scott Hobel and Majorie Hobel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, June 3, 2023, with visitation starting at 10:00am until time of service, in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park, IL 61111. Burial immediately following the funeral service in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park, IL.
