John Henry Hochuli, Jr, age 94, formerly from Syosset and Hampton Bays, NY, passed away on May 20. 2025.
Born August 30, 1930, in Philadelphia, PA, and raised in Richmond Hill, NY. Survived by his loving wife Betty Lou (Hume) of 72 years, son John (Donna Ortel), daughters Laura Kavanagh (Donald) and Barbara English (Richard) Grandchildren Eriq (Melissa Tate), Joseph Kavanagh (Alexandra Jones), John Kavanagh, Ashley Lindroth (Daniel), Andrew English (Teresa Amore), James English. Also survived by seven great-grandchildren. Predeceased by sisters Hazel Schmidt and Anna Fink.
John had many accomplishments in his life. He was a star swimmer for Richmond Hill High School. He served our country in the US Navy from 1949 to 1953. He was part of the Navy Seabees. He built houses in Levittown. Started a storm door and window company out of his garage that turned into Diamond Manufacturing Inc., which employed over 100 employees at one time. After Diamond closed, he continued working at Security Fuel, a family-owned business.
John was an avid golfer and was a member of the Mill River Club. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Syosset, where he was active on the building and grounds committee. When he finally retired, golf, his family, and his loving wife, Betty Lou, filled up his days.
We will miss his sense of humor, his positive outlook on life, and his generosity to all.
