Born in Queens, New York, to Irish immigrant parents, John was one of six children. He worked from a young age to support his family while earning a degree in Economics from Queens College. In 1959, he married the love of his life, Gerry Honl, and together they raised five children on Long Island, New York.
John served in the U.S. Army and built a successful career in the aerospace industry, later transitioning to real estate appraisal after retiring to Irvington, Virginia. He was active in the Rotary Club and served as its president.
After Gerry's passing in 2020, John moved closer to family in Boulder, Colorado, where he embraced community life at Frasier Meadows. There, he remained intellectually active and made meaningful connections, including a cherished friendship with Reva Greenburg.
John is survived by his five children: Elizabeth, Nancy, John Jr., Ellen, and Amy; 13 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
A burial service will be held at Historic Christ Church on November 22, 2025 at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Historic Christ Church via www.christchurch1735.org/donate
