John Hooyman Obituary

John "Jack" Hooyman, Jr age 95 passed away on September 27th, 2024, after a long and well lived life. Predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years, Geraldine A. Hooyman, passed in 2021 and his daughter Debra Ann Long passed in 2022.
John was born and lived on Highland Ave. in the City of Passaic, NJ. In 1947, the family moved to Madison Ave. in Clifton, NJ. John was drafted into the United States Army to serve in Korea, during the Korean War. John also was a guitar player and a gifted singer, as the musical gene was passed down throughout most of the Hooyman family.
After serving in the army, John was introduced to a young woman named Geraldine VanWyk and they both being strong in their faith, knew it was God's plan. Six months later wedding bells rang. John began his career getting a job as a "Land Surveyors Assistant".
John and Geraldine resided in Rochelle Park, NJ, and later moved the family to Mahwah, NJ. John was the proud and devoted father of 4 children, Debra Ann, Diane Jean, Glenn, and Gary.
John became a Licensed Land Surveyor, and was the owner of Hooyman Surveying Associates, for over 40 years.
Christian faith, was the root of John's life, where he unselfishly and faithfully dedicated to giving his all to his Lord and Savior, whether it was praising him with the gift of song, helping others in need, whether it was lending a hand or just fellowship. John was an Elder, member of the choir, and a mentor to many, At Abundant Life Church, formally The 2nd Reformed Church of Wyckoff.
John is survived by his daughter, Diane Brede and her husband Billy and their 3 children and 11 grandchildren, his son Glenn Hooyman, his son Gary Hooyman and his wife Jamie and their 3 children, and his son-in-law F. Dwight Long and their 3 children.
The Hooyman family will receive friends on Saturday, October 5 at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home from 10:00 – 11:00 AM with Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at the Wyckoff Reformed Church Cemetery in Wyckoff.
