John Phillip Houze, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Father Hudson Center for Hope in Elizabeth, New Jersey, at the age of 80.
Born on January 16, 1944, in Mobile, Alabama, to the late John and Bernice (Dixon) Houze. He grew up in Alabama, and embarked on a path of honor and duty, serving with distinction in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era by having served two terms, is a true testament to his courage and commitment to his country. Upon his return, John found love in Michigan, where he met his cherished wife, Norma. Together, they forged a life filled with adventure, eventually settling in North Brunswick, New Jersey, after residing in Hackensack and Edison.
John's professional journey led him to a successful career as a logistics manager for Menlo Logistics in Monroe. Beyond his professional endeavors, John was a passionate photographer, owning his own business, Image Center in Detroit. His keen eye for capturing moments reflected his deep appreciation for life's beauty. Engaged in his community, John was a dedicated member and former Quarter Master of the Kendall Park VFW. He served his neighborhood at Governors Point in North Brunswick as a member of the compliance and fines committee, demonstrating his commitment to making his surroundings a better place for all.
A man of varied interests, John found joy in culinary arts, boasting the title of the creator of the best barbecue, and in sports, where he reveled in the thrill of competition. He was exceptionally tech-savvy and loved the shore, particularly Spring Lake and Asbury Park.
John was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Houze and Lamont Houze.
He is survived by his devoted wife of forty-five years, Norma Houze of North Brunswick, and his siblings Ted Houze, Lionel Houze, Harold Houze, Dennis Houze, Theresa Alexander, and Wanda Andrews, all of Mobile, Alabama. His brothers-in-law Jacques (Karyn) Alexandre of Teaneck, New Jersey and Alex (Barbara) Jones of Orlando, Florida. Additionally, he leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends, who will forever cherish his memory.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, May 4th, from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the Gleason Funeral Home of North Brunswick, located at 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick, NJ 08902. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home, offering an opportunity to celebrate John's life and the profound impact he had on all who knew him.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
