COHOES John C. Howansky entered into eternal life Monday, February 5, 2024 at the age of 101. He is once again reunited with his wife, Helen Kulczycki Howansky who passed in 2020.
Born in Watervliet, John was the son of the late Samuel and Anna Humicki Howansky. He worked at GE in Schenectady for 38 years until his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Cohoes and had been a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts in his younger years. He also enjoyed square dancing, playing cards (especially pinochle) and belonged to the Shenendehowa and Halfmoon Senior Citizens.
John was known for his ability to fix anything. He even ran a side TV repair business. He took great pride in his craftsmanship to the extent that he built his own homes and helped family and friends with theirs.
John was the loving father of John Howansky, Jr. (Patricia) of St. Cloud, FL, Robert Howansky (Deborah) of Cohoes, Ronald Howansky (Debbie) of Troy and Linda Libera (Jack) of Charlton, MA and the brother of Daniel Howansky of Watervliet. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his 7 siblings, Steve Howansky, Mary Swota, Samuel Howansky, Martha Tillema, Peter, David and Michael Howansky.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, Cohoes. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Waterford.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home from 9 – 10:30 a.m. prior to the Mass.
