John Hucul Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kyger Funeral Home - Harrisonburg on Mar. 26, 2024.
11/03/1952 – 03/24/2024
John was many things in life.
He was a good man, a loyal friend, a great husband, and the best father to ever walk this Earth.
He was a research scientist, a seeker of knowledge, a campground owner, a comic book collector, a Buffalo Bills fan, and a dog lover. He only recently began to like cats. He listened to classical music and classic rock. He loved video games. The kids and I spent many fun hours excitedly watching him play and shouting "watch out for the monster!" John enjoyed movies. He would recite lines from many of his favorites at just the right time in a conversation to bring a smile to everyone. His timing was perfect. His favorite movies were "It's A Wonderful Life", "A Christmas Carol" (both the Muppets version and the one with George C. Scott), "A Christmas Story", "Young Frankenstein" and all the Monty Python movies. Hours before he passed, he wanted to hear "Look on the bright side of life... " He sang along smiling and swaying to the tune.
Christmas was his favorite holiday. He spoiled each of us terribly every year. We loved it.
Decorating for Halloween was his passion. His creativity was unsurpassed.
John loved books. He still owns every single book he has ever read. He actually read and understood Infinite Jest. Last year, he read every single Charles Dickins book, cover to cover, in the order that they were written. Of course he read A Christmas Carol every single December.
John's energy has returned to the universe. His spirit is mingling with the stars.
His brain and spinal cord have been donated to the Georgetown Brain Bank for further ALS research.
John is survived by his wife Monica Morgan-Hucul. His three children Catherine Hucul, Michael Hucul and Joseph Hucul. His brother Thomas Hucul. And some very close friends.
He will be missed.
Save your flowers, your thoughts and prayers and your words of sympathy. We don't need them.
