Born in
Riverside, California, and raised in
Elkton, Virginia, Ron lived a full and vibrant life defined by devoted service to his country, dedication to his family, entrepreneurial drive, and a passion for flying, sports, and artistic creation.
He was married for 69 cherished years to his beloved wife, Louise Meadows McCoy. Together, they shared a love for their family, cherishing every moment with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as a great joy and legacy of their lives. He and his beloved wife Louise also shared a profound love of travel, visiting over 60 countries together. They especially enjoyed the opportunities that came with living overseas during his military assignments in the Philippines and Turkey, where they immersed themselves in new cultures and created lasting memories.
Ron proudly served his country as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force, retiring after 23 distinguished years. He amassed over 5,000 flight hours and truly enjoyed the thrill and precision of flying. His assignments included piloting the T-39 Sabreliner as a general's aide, operating the T-33 Shooting Star, and flying C-47 Skytrains in Vietnam as part of the renowned "Dirty Thirty" unit. His uniform from that era is on permanent display at the USAF Museum in recognition of his contributions and service.
Following his military retirement, Ron channeled his energy into civilian endeavors, owning his own businesses and serving as President of two others, where his leadership continued to shine.
A man of deep faith, he served faithfully as both a deacon and elder at First Presbyterian Church of Harrisonburg, contributing wisdom and grace to his community.
Ron held three patents for his inventive creations and found joy in artistic pursuits. He passionately created art in stained glass, watercolor, and oils-mediums that allowed him to capture light, color, and beauty in ways that reflected his creative spirit.
