John Dennis Huffhines, 76, passed away from natural causes surrounded by family on January 21st, 2025 at the VA Hospital in San Diego, California.

John was the son of Edwin and Emily Huffhines, born on August 18th, 1948 in Waukegan, Illinois. He graduated from Warren Township High School in 1966, where he was a drummer, Golden Gloves boxer, and football player. He joined the United States Marine Corp shortly thereafter and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, in California, for the duration of his service.

After being honorably discharged from the Marines as a Sergeant, John quickly returned to Illinois where he married his high school sweetheart, Sheila Bradley, who agreed to drive back to California where they would start their life together. He obtained an Associate in Arts degree and spent the majority of his career as a commercial printer, until he experienced an injury playing softball which led to the loss of an eye. He finished his working years as a TSA agent at the San Diego international Airport.

Throughout his life, and especially in retirement, John enjoyed playing cards and traveling to see friends and family. He loved various kinds of music and often traveled to different music festivals. Nothing was more important or special to John than spending time with family. While a man of few words, he had a sense of humor and his smile lit up the room.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert and Richard, sisters Frances and Barbara, and his former wife Sheila.

He is survived by his brother Edwin Huffhines and his wife Rosemary, his sister-in-law Barbara (Babs) Huffhines, and his four children: Denise Huffhines and wife Suzanne, Jennifer Currier and husband Mark, Nathan Huffhines and wife Beth, and Garrett Huffhines and wife Christina; his grandchildren Jacob and Lucas Currier and Emily, Thomas, and John Huffhines; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

John was a deeply beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. We invite you to share pictures or memories as it was his wish that we laugh and reminisce, smile, and be together during this time.

Friends and family will meet for visitation on Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 10:30AM-12:30PM at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N. Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL. The funeral service will begin at 12:30PM, with interment to follow in Warren Cemetery.
