John R. Hugus, 84, of Greensburg, died Friday, October 03, 2025 at home. He was born November 28, 1940, in Greensburg, a son of the late Maurice W. and Kathleen Michaels Hugus.
John graduated from Greensburg High School in 1958. He was a long-time member of Our Lady of Grace Church where he had served as a Eucharistic Minister and custodian. He retired from Westinghouse after 36 years of service and was a dedicated volunteer for Tri City Meals on Wheels from 2005-2021. John was a lifelong Pitt fan. He was an avid bowler and golfer, belonging to several leagues in the Greensburg area over several years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Judith Mesich Hugus in 2005; sister, Mary Ann Foster; and brothers, Edward and Welty Hugus.
He is survived by his wife of fifteen years, Sammie Steel; four children, Jennifer Davis (Jeff) of Greensburg, Jeannine Zeigler (Jeff) of Springboro, OH; Jessica Zahorchak and John M. Hugus (Rebecca), all of Greensburg; seven grandchildren, Jordan Fratto (Frank), Cullen and Casey Quigley, Allie (Noah) and Annie Zahorchak and James and Jacob Hugus; two great grandchildren, Giovanni and Natalia Fratto; two sisters-in-law, Roz Hugus of IN and Joanne Pallitto (Burt) of Greensburg; two brothers-in-law, Thomas Szymanski of North Huntingdon and Ronald Szymanski (Janet) of Monroeville and numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends of John will be received Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Clement L. Pantalone Funeral Home, Inc. 409 W. Pittsburgh Street, Greensburg, PA 15601, (724) 837-0020.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Pantalone Funeral Home.
Private interment will be in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
The family would like to thank the physicians and staff of Independence Hospice for their compassionate care during John's illness.
