WENDELL – John William (Bill) Hurt of Wendell, NC sadly passed away on Monday, leaving behind many treasured family members and friends to mourn his passing. Born in Wake County to Gladys Hamilton and Mack Henry Hurt, John grew up a farm boy where hard work, integrity, and honesty were all traits that were instilled in him. This work ethic benefited him in his professional life being employed at Raleigh Tire for 20 years and as being a business owner as a mobile home repairman. Outside of work, he had few hobbies but treasured his daughters Betty and Rhonda. He was a man of few words so when he spoke, you knew it was important.
John is survived by his daughters, Betty Hurt Brantley (Rick) of Sparta and Rhonda Hurt Smith (Scott) of Benson. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brandi Dean, Tiffany Brantley Gresham (Chris), Lucas Smith (Melissa); great-grandchildren, Taylor Dean, Elisha Dean, Luke Smith, Kade Smith; and five great-great grandchildren. Surviving siblings are Doug Hurt, Donald Hurt (Linda), Marie Ferrell, Peggy Brown, Jean Ann Tart and Elsie Linder (Jay).
John is preceded in death by his infant twin daughter, Wanda Kay Hurt, parents, Mack and Gladys Hurt, and brothers Robert Lee Hurt and Arthur Ray Hurt.
A visitation will be held at 10:00am, Friday April 26 2024 at Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, Wendell. A funeral service will follow immediately after with burial to follow at Zebulon Town Cemetery.
