John Benjamin Ilnicki

John Benjamin Ilnicki, age 90, of Horseheads, NY passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Christmas Day, 1933 in Bath, NY to Ignak and Anna (Dec) Ilnicki. John, a dedicated father, loving brother, and supportive friend, lived his life with a degree of commitment and zest that was contagious.
John was a retired Platinum Smith, who dedicated 44 years of his life to Corning, Inc., a testament to his dedication and industrious nature. He was an avid fan of baseball and football, always cheering for the New York Mets and the Dallas Cowboys. His appreciation for the outdoors was evident in his passions for hunting, fishing, and cutting wood. When he wasn't outdoors, John was often seen at Donna's Restaurant in Corning, a place he enjoyed visiting. John had a favorite pastime of attending auctions.
John was also a proud veteran of the United States Army, a commitment that showcased his love for his country. Above all, it was his family that mattered the most to John.
He is survived by his sons, Steven (Heather Sands) Ilnicki and John Ilnicki; grandsons, Christopher Ilnicki, Steven Ilnicki, and Zachary Sands; brother, Fred Ilnicki; his dear friend and caretaker, Melissa Payne; and several nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his parents, Ignak and Anna Ilnicki; sisters, Julie Balcer and Stella Burton; and by his brothers, Mike and Frank Ilnicki.
Calling Hours will be held on Friday, June 14th from 5 - 7 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. 1st Street, Corning, NY, where funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 15th at 10:00 AM with Father Matthew Walter officiating. Burial will be in Presho Cemetery.
