John Jackson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sebrell Funeral Home on Jan. 22, 2026.
John Wesley Jackson, a cherished family man, esteemed truck driver, and beloved member of his community, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, in McComb, MS, at the age of 83. Born June 7, 1942, in Copiah County, MS, John lived a life defined by dedication, hard work, and the joy of human connection. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Harmony Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Saturday at Harmony Baptist Church.

John's journey began as the son of humble beginnings in rural Mississippi, where he learned the values of kinship and integrity. His life was a testament to the strength of family bonds, as he was a loving father to his son, James Scott Baham (Cindy) of Crystal Springs, and a doting grandfather to Ashley Lucky (Scott) of Clinton, and her children, Judah, Ezra, Chloe Jane, and Silas Lucky. His legacy continued to flourish with his great-granddaughter, Scarlett McCraw, who brought him immense pride and joy.

He shared a close bond with his siblings, who will remember him fondly. His sister, Marguerite Hartley of Hazlehurst, and her children, Scott (Penny), Tim, and Jerry Hartley, Reba Barrett (Ray) of Hazlehurst; alongside his brother, Ed Jackson (Darlene) of Huntsville, AR; will cherish memories of John's unwavering support and brotherly love. His family foundation was rocked by the loss of his beloved wife, Janie Jackson, and his dear granddaughter, Lori Michelle Baham, both of whom he is now reunited with in eternal rest.

John's career spanned over five decades as a dedicated over-the-road truck driver for Sojourner Trucking in Crystal Springs. His job took him across the vast highways of the United States, allowing him to indulge in his passion for exploration and adventure. His work was not just a means of livelihood but a canvas for his larger-than-life tales from the road, which he shared with anyone who had a moment to spare.

Away from the steering wheel, John was an active member of the Moose Lodge, where he found camaraderie and a sense of purpose. He was known for his ability to light up a room with his laughter and for being the heart of any gathering. His friends, especially his trucker buddies, will miss his warm presence and the sense of community he fostered.

John's interests were as vast as the roads he traveled. He was a man who loved deeply, laughed heartily, and lived fully. His absence will be felt profoundly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His stories, values, and the love he shared will continue to resonate with his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. John Wesley Jackson will be laid to rest in his beloved Mississippi, under the wide-open skies that he so often traveled beneath, leaving behind a trail of love and memories that will guide those he loved for years to come.
