Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bruce C. Van Arsdale Funeral Home on Dec. 13, 2025.
John Elias Janho, Jr. passed from this earth and into the presence of Jesus, His Savior, on December 11, 2025. He was 88 years old.
John was born in
Somerset, NJ to Elias and Jeannette Janho. He resided in Somerset for his entire life. John was a graduate of New Brunswick High School and attended one year of higher education at Northeastern Bible College. Later in life he attended and graduated from Word of Life Bible Institute in 1996.
John served in the United States Naval Reserve for 8 years. He founded Cedar Hill Landscaping in 1962 and incorporated in 1967. After fifty-five years of building the business, he transferred ownership to his son, John Janho III. John accepted Jesus as his Savior at the age of 17 and was a devout Christian man, gifted in leadership and generosity, who faithfully served the Lord throughout his lifetime. He served on the Board of Elders at New Durham Chapel for 25 years, the Board of Trustees at Timothy Christian School for 35 years, the Board of Trustees at Word of Life Fellowship for 30 years, the Board of Deacons and the Visitation Team at Hydewood Park Baptist Church, and the Prayer Team at Zarephath Christian Church for 15 years.
John is fondly remembered by his family for the time he spent teaching them to be diligent in their work, in serving others, and in enjoying special family times together. His children recall as a family serving at New Durham Chapel every Saturday by mowing the lawn and cleaning the church, going to Word of Life Camp every summer, and riding snowmobiles and quad runners together. His grandchildren recall family night dinners and Christmas Eve at Poppy and Nana's with cousins, aunts, and uncles, playing games, riding quad runners, and enjoying whatever Poppy was cooking on the grill – he was the Master Chef! John enjoyed spending time with his family, watching NASCAR, football, and old TV shows, and driving his truck. He faithfully read his Bible, memorized scripture, prayed, and shared his testimony and the gospel with anyone who would listen. Florence was the love of his life, and in his later years he enjoyed taking her on dates to get coffee and bagels. John will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends.
John is predeceased by his sister Mary Anne Kevra, daughter-in-law Susan Janho, and grandson Jesse Janho.
