John Janho Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bruce C. Van Arsdale Funeral Home on Dec. 13, 2025.
John Elias Janho, Jr. passed from this earth and into the presence of Jesus, His Savior, on December 11, 2025. He was 88 years old.
John was born in Somerset, NJ to Elias and Jeannette Janho. He resided in Somerset for his entire life. John was a graduate of New Brunswick High School and attended one year of higher education at Northeastern Bible College. Later in life he attended and graduated from Word of Life Bible Institute in 1996. John served in the United States Naval Reserve for 8 years.
John married the love of his life, Florence (Mehl) on June 25, 1960. In 1962, they started their family. That same year John founded Cedar Hill Landscaping and incorporated the company in 1967. After fifty-five years of building the business, he transferred ownership to his son, John Janho III.
John accepted Jesus as his Savior at the age of 17 and was a devout Christian man, gifted in leadership and generosity, who faithfully served the Lord throughout his lifetime. He served on the Board of Elders at New Durham Chapel for 25 years, the Board of Trustees at Timothy Christian School for 35 years, the Board of Trustees at Word of Life Fellowship for 30 years, the Board of Deacons and the Visitation Team at Hydewood Park Baptist Church, and the Prayer Team at Zarephath Christian Church for 15 years.
John is fondly remembered by his family for the time he spent encouraging them to love and follow Jesus, to be diligent in their work, to serve others, and for the many special times they spent with him. His children recall serving together as a family by mowing the lawn and cleaning the church at New Durham Chapel every Saturday, going to Word of Life Camp every summer, and riding snowmobiles and quad runners. His grandchildren recall "Family Night" dinners and Christmas Eve at Poppy and Nana's with cousins, aunts, and uncles, playing games, riding quad runners, and enjoying whatever Poppy was cooking on the grill – he was the Master Chef! In retirement, John's pastimes included watching NASCAR, football, and old television shows, listening to sermons, hymns, and music by the Gaither Vocal Band, and driving his truck. He faithfully read his Bible, memorized scripture, prayed, and shared his testimony and the gospel with anyone who would listen. In his later years, John enjoyed taking Florence on dates to get coffee and bagels. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends.
John is predeceased by his sister Mary Anne Kevra, daughter-in-law Susan Janho, and grandson Jesse Janho.
Surviving is his wife Florence Janho, his sister Katherine Cosmi, his children John Janho III (Kelly), Naomi Etchison (Scott), Joshua L. Janho, Timothy Janho (Dawn), and Stephen Janho (Deborah), his grandchildren John Janho IV (Nyrie,) Joshua J. Janho, (Brienne), Caleb Janho (Julia), Rachel Yusuf (Jamal), Ruth Etchison (Grant), Kelly Guhl (Joshua), Mary McEldowney (Tyler), Noah Etchison, Rebekah Arthur (David), Mariah Herlihy (Sean), Charleton Janho (Cassidy), Timothy Janho Jr. (Ariel), Nicole Acevedo (Jorge), Abigail Welch (Jonah), Isabella Vega (Lucas), Stephen (Boaz) Janho, Jacob Janho and Sophia Janho. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Zarephath Christian Church on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 N. Gaston Ave, Somerville.

Mr Janho will truly be missed. My mom worked for him for a great many years in the office and watched his kids grow. He was truly an inspiration to everyone he came in contact with. With living condolences from the Wilkinson Family
