John's early years in Illinois were filled with the love and support of his family, including his brothers David, along with his wife Tess, and Kevin Kalisz; his aunt Diane Arndt and her husband Dennis; and his cousins Sharon and Brian. His family, friends and mentors provided a foundation of love that John carried with him throughout his life. Although John had special needs, he became special to the people who knew him.
A true Star Trek enthusiast, John's passion for the franchise was evident in his vast knowledge of the series and his collection of memorabilia. John's interests were not limited to sports and science fiction; he was also an avid fan of the culinary arts. He loved watching cooking shows and even had the honor of receiving Emeril Lagasse's autograph-a cherished memento that spoke to his love of food and cooking.
Word searches were another of John's favorite pastimes, providing him with hours of entertainment and a way to challenge his mind. He was also a devoted football fan, enjoying the thrill of the game and the sense of community it fostered.
Traveling with his family was one of John's most cherished activities. Together, they explored new places, creating lasting memories. His appreciation for nature was evident in his love for walking in parks, where he found peace and tranquility. Shopping trips with his parents were not just errands but adventures that John looked forward to with great anticipation.
