James Edward Pulley, a beacon of kindness and a true friend to all, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on October 30, 1928, in Wake Co., North Carolina, Edward's life was a testament to the power of positivity and the impact of a loving spirit.

Edward's journey began as the cherished son of Joe Turner and Lena Pulley. He grew up surrounded by the warmth of his brothers Lawrence, Nathan, Jessie, and Truby Pulley, and his sisters Madeline Fleming, Lola Mae Matthew, and Lila Driver, all of whom preceded him in death. Their legacy of love and unity continued to be a guiding force throughout his life.

Edward is survived by his son, Dennis Parker; his nieces Sylvia Hicks, Audrey Dunn, Phyllis Pulley, Brenda Bridges, Tonya Jackson, Debbie Pulley, and his nephews Brian Pulley, and Ashley Pulley will remember their uncle as a pillar of strength and a source of endless encouragement. His dedication to his family was matched only by the care he received from his devoted caregiver, Tabatha Newcomb. His extended family of great nieces and nephews, as well as great-great nieces and nephews, will carry forward the lessons of compassion and camaraderie that he instilled in them.

For 34 years, Edward served with distinction at Dorothea Dix Hospital, where his commitment to helping others shone brightly. His colleagues knew him as a man of integrity and generosity, always willing to lend a hand or share a word of support. His involvement with the hospital went beyond his work duties; he was a friend and mentor to many, leaving behind a legacy of service that will long be remembered.

Edward's passion for sports, particularly baseball, was a thread that ran through the fabric of his life. He brought joy to the fields of Raleigh as an umpire for minor league baseball, to the diamonds of Rolesville in little league, and to the high school games in Raleigh. His love for the game was infectious, and his fair play and respect for the players made him a beloved figure in the sports community.

Described as loving, kind, and friendly, Edward's life was a masterclass in the art of living well. He approached each day with a smile, eager to make a positive difference in the lives of others. His motivational spirit was evident in the way he uplifted those around him, encouraging them to be their best selves and to embrace the joy of each moment.

Edward's story is one of unwavering optimism and boundless love. As we celebrate his life, we are reminded of the power of a kind word, the strength found in family, and the enduring legacy of a life well-lived. His memory will continue to inspire us, and his example will guide us as we strive to emulate his remarkable spirit in our own lives. Your light will forever shine in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know.

A graveside service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at Rolesville Baptist Church Cemetery.
