John Paul Kaster

John Paul Kaster of Palacios, TX passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024 in San Marcos, TX at the age of 55.
Born in El Paso on November 11, 1968, he was the son of the late James Jay Kaster V and Helene (Vogelpohl) Kaster.
John was an avid outdoorsman, coastal fisherman, and a loving father. Over his years of fishing on the Texas coast he has caught many prize-worthy fish. One of his proudest accomplishments was reeling in a rare giant Jack Crevalle off the Texas coast. John was also a great cook who enjoyed cooking for his family and swapping recipes with his siblings. As a coffee connoisseur, he loved brewing coffee from beans that he roasted himself.
John had a profound love for his children. While they were growing up, he shared his love for the outdoors with all three of them. They learned from him how to set up a tent, start a fire, identify edible plants, tie every kind of knot, and most importantly how to cook over a campfire. He was immensely proud of all three of his children. He cherished the playful bantering and bargain shopping with Hailey, enjoyed epic video game marathons and fitness challenges with Devin, and geeked out on nature and traded puns with Kayla. He will be missed by all who knew him.
John spent much of his professional career in industrial construction as a very skilled crane operator. He had recently joined CenTex Environmental, his brother Jim Kaster's business in San Marcos, TX.
John is survived by his son, James Devin Kaster of La Marque, TX; two daughters, Kayla Kaster and Hailey Kaster of La Marque; and his former wife and mother of his children, Amy Kaster of La Marque, TX.
He is also survived by two brothers, James Jay Kaster VI of San Marcos, and Rustie Kaster and his wife Allison, with daughters Mia and Harriet of San Rafael, CA; two sisters, Deborah Pfluger and her husband Brad of Austin, along with their children Grant, Audrey, and Marshal; and Laura Mathews and her husband Tom of Austin; as well as his late sister Kathie Geary's children, Austin and Taylor.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Jay and Helene Kaster and his beloved sister, Kathie Geary.
