John Henry Kitchens, Jr. passed away September 21, 2025 at the age of 76. He was born September 23, 1948 to the late John Henry Kitchens, Sr. and Marion Caine Matthews.

John Henry earned a Bachelor's degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He served his country as a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His courage and dedication, both on and off the battlefield, exemplify a commitment to others that would define his life.

A man of many passions, John Henry cherished the great outdoors. He cultivated a deep appreciation for nature, sharing this passion with his beloved grandson. Together, they created lasting memories horseback riding, hunting, and fishing, experiences that ignited a spark in the heart of a young boy and forged a bond that transcended generations.

John Henry's spirit of giving was evident in everything he did. He found joy in taking care of those around him, always putting others first. His generosity extended beyond his family, warming the hearts of friends and strangers alike. His kitchen was often filled with the intoxicating aromas of his culinary experiments; his barbecue and pizza were not just meals but family favorites that brought loved ones together around the table, sharing stories and laughter.

He found great joy in discovering new places, whether wandering through Europe’s charm or taking in the quiet beauty of Maine. More than just a traveler, John Henry embraced the cultures he encountered—sharing vivid stories from his travels.

He is survived by his children, Anna C. Kitchens and John H. Kitchens, III and grandson, J. Collier Kitchens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Samaritan's Purse.
