John Kogut passed peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Life Care Center of Attleboro. He was the loving husband of Magdalene (Costa) Kogut and father of three children.
Born and raised in Fall River, Massachusetts, John was the son of John and Mary Kogut. He attended B.M.C. Durfee High School, where he graduated with honors in 1954.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served in photo intelligence and interpretation for four years before honorable discharge as an Airman First Class. He also played with the Air Force all-star basketball team, traveling abroad in Europe.
After his service overseas, he met the love of his life in Magdalene Costa, with whom he would share the next 63 years. They married in 1961 before moving to East Greenwich, Rhode Island, and would relocate to Warwick, Rhode Island to raise a family. They settled in Attleboro, Massachusetts, where they became a beloved part of the local community.
John attended Bay State College's Airline Academy, serving as class president and graduating with honors, before entering the workforce. He spent 30 years working for USAir, where he served as a tower supervisor in air traffic control at T.F. Green and Logan Airport.
An avid golfer, he was a member of Highland Country Club and Norton Country Club, where he would play weekly for as long as he was able. He enjoyed music and art, good food, spending time outdoors, and tending his garden. He was passionate about sports and a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and Boston Celtics. A practicing Catholic of unwavering faith, he was a long-standing member of St. John the Evangelist parish in Attleboro.
John is survived by his wife, their three children, and their families: Karen and her husband John Chatfield, Kevin and his wife Sandie (McCormack), and Kenneth and his wife Barbara (Bagdonas). He also leaves six grandchildren, Blake, Kim, Jamie, John, Connor, and Brad, whom he treasured as "the greatest."
John's family would like to thank all the caregivers at Sturdy Memorial Hospital and Life Care Center of Attleboro for their compassionate help. They would especially like to thank Dr. Steven Bensson and Fr. Craig Pregana for their exceptional care and support.
Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main Street, Attleboro on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
