John J. Krann

John J. Krann, 76, of Mentor, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer.

Born Nov. 22, 1949, in Cleveland, John lived in Mentor for many years.

A 1967 graduate of St. Joseph's High School in Cleveland, John went on to study at Cleveland State University.

John dedicated 31 years of hard work and loyalty to Rocket Field House, where he was known for his commitment and strong work ethic.

His life was deeply connected to the water. John was the Past Commodore of the West Channel Yacht Club and a current member of Chagrin Marina. An avid boater, he found peace and joy on the water, often sharing that passion with family and friends.

John and Sherrie began "going steady" on June 8, 1966 - a date so meaningful to them that it was celebrated more faithfully than their wedding anniversary. John never missed a chance to serenade Sherrie, often belting out "Sherry Baby" by The Four Seasons or "Cherish" by The Association. His heartfelt performances were offered with great enthusiasm, occasionally to the mild dismay of their neighbors, but always with deep and abiding love.

Above all, John treasured time with his family. He especially loved bowling with his grandkids, moments filled with laughter, friendly competition, and unforgettable memories. John was also a true food lover and never missed a chance to enjoy a great meal-particularly his favorite: his wife's cooking.

As the founder of Rockway Catering, John leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered with smiles and stories, none more famous than his beloved clam chowder. It was more than a recipe-it was a tradition, a comfort, and a symbol of the love he shared so generously with those around him.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.

John was the beloved husband for 55 years of Sherrie R. (nee Popp) Krann; loving father of Joseph (Melissa) Krann, Maryann (Michael) Sekerak, Nora (Preston) Squires and Gabriella (Max) Fujs; cherished grandfather of Jacob, Justin, Nicholas, Natalie, Thomas, Tyler, Bella, Katie, Alli, Lauren, Luke and AJ Sekerak and Dylan, Madi and Katie Squires; brother of Michaelene (Thomas) McNulty; brother-in-law of Brenda Krann; and uncle of many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Bryne Krann; parents, Edward and Mary (nee Kolodosky) Krann; siblings, Edward, Maryann, James and Joseph Krann; and in-laws, Zolton and Josephine Popp.

Family will receive friends Saturday, April 25, time TBD, for a Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 8560 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
