John R. "Jack" Kriete

HARBOR BEACH & CROSWELL- John R. "Jack" Kriete, age 83, a resident of Harbor Beach and Croswell passed away very unexpectedly on Sunday, April 6, 2025 in Lapeer, where he and his wife were attending a Lions Convention.
He was born on August 5, 1941 in Bay Shore, New York, a son of the late John and Jane Kriete. Jack joined the Coast Guard after graduating from high school and also started working for the New York Transit Authority and worked his way up to Supervisor until his retirement. He then went back to the Coast Guard Reserve for 26 years. During that time he served along the Atlantic Coast, from Greenland to the Gulf of Mexico. After retiring from the Coast Guard he moved to Harbor Beach and became active in the local Lions Club, serving in several officer positions, including District Governor. Most recently he served District 11-D2 as their District Treasurer. He was also a trustee for the Lions of Michigan Foundation. He enjoyed gardening and playing with his grandchildren, but most of all helping people. Everyone will remember him for being a "Shenanigan Enthusiast". Jack was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lexington and the Croswell Lions Club.
Jack and his first wife, Julia had seven children, Patricia Martin, Brian Kriete, Suzanne Doyle, Kevin Kriete, Michael Kriete, Margaret Kriete and Mary Kriete. He later married Virginia and she had three children, Tammy Mosey, Karen Diehl and Paul Siemen. On June 8, 2024 he married Cheryl Loomis who had two children, Bruce Loomis and Joyce Lafferty. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren Many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his two wives, Julia and Virginia; his son, Kevin Kriete and daughter, Mary Kriete; one grandchild and one great grandchild; and one brother, Robert Kriete; step son, Gary Siemen.
Visitation will be from 2-8 P.M. on Thursday at the Pomeroy Funeral Home in Croswell. A Lions Tribute will be held at 7 P.M. Thursday evening. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lexington, with visiting at the church from 10-11 A.M. Friday morning. Pastor Christopher Jung will officiate. Military Honors will be provided by the Croswell American Legion. A luncheon will immediately follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
Memorials in memory of Jack made be made to the Lions of Michigan Foundation or St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
