After a long and courageous battle with MS, it is with deep sadness we announce that our dad, John Kubicki, passed away on June 23, 2024. John was born to Joseph and Frances Kubicki on April 27, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan. Sadly, shortly thereafter, his mother Frances fell ill while he was a child. John held on tightly to her memory, however, right up until the very end of his life. Growing up in Michigan, his summers were filled with going up north, where his love of the outdoors started and followed him throughout his life.
In 1970, he enlisted into the Air Force, where he got his start as a Radio Relay Mechanic. Later, he completed his Bachelors at Sienna Heights College, where he met his late wife, Mary. Together they had two children, Johnny and Alix (Scott).
After college, he tried the civilian life, but felt his calling was back in the Air Force. After completing OTS, his career took him and his family all over.
John had the most amazing ability to persevere through all obstacles life threw at him, and he would often say he was determined to “make it out alive”. This trait would prove invaluable throughout his young adulthood and, indeed, the entirety of his life.
Even with all of life’s setbacks, John always lived life to the fullest. Even throughout his struggle with MS, he made the most out of every day, right up until he drew his last breath.
Another joy in his life was being able to watch his granddaughter Isobel grow up.
His life boasts an incredible laundry list of accomplishments he achieved throughout his life, but what I will remember him most for is being my best friend, my hero, my dad.
“Good night. God bless. I love you. Dobranoc.”
Friends may visit with family on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Interment will take place in Michigan.
