John Lacomis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barber Memorial Home, Inc. - Johnson City on Dec. 31, 2025.
John S. Lacomis, 81, passed away surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, laughter, and deep family bonds. John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend whose presence filled every room with warmth and humor.
John shared 59 beautiful years of marriage with his loving wife, Karen (Hatter) Lacomis, the love of his life and constant companion. Together they built a life rooted in commitment, joy, and family-one that will continue to inspire all who knew them.
He was the proud father of three daughters, Marie Hopko (Joseph), Pamela Stento (Christopher), and Kristen Gaul (Scott), each of whom was the center of his world. John was endlessly proud of the women they became and cherished every moment spent with them.
John remained close to his surviving brothers, Robert Lacomis (Kay) and Thomas Lacomis (Deb) as they shared many memories and laughs.
Above all else, John was the best, funniest, and most loving grandfather to his six adored grandchildren: Victoria Stento, Jacob Stento, Olivia Hopko, Jack Hopko, Madison Gaul, and Nathan Gaul. Being "Grandpa" was one of his greatest joys, and his quick wit, playful spirit, and unconditional love created memories that will live on in their hearts forever.
John loved traveling to Florida with Karen to escape the cold winters, but nothing compared to his favorite tradition of all-the annual Bethany Beach vacation, where family gathered, laughter echoed, and lifelong memories were made. Those weeks by the ocean were a true reflection of what mattered most to him: togetherness.
A decorated Vietnam Veteran, John served his country with extraordinary courage and honor. He was awarded both the Purple Heart and the Silver Star, a testament to his bravery, selflessness, and unwavering sense of duty. Though humble about his service, his sacrifice and valor will never be forgotten.
John lived a life defined by love, loyalty, and laughter. He was a steady presence, a protector, a storyteller (even if it was mostly fabricated), and the heart of his family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered every day.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday January 3, 2026 at 11am at St Ambrose Church 203 Washington Avenue Endicott. The family will receive friends on Saturday at 10am until the time of the mass.
