John Arthur Lawson, age 94 of Louisville, Kentucky went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 20, 2025 with his Family by his side. He was born on March 8, 1931 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Estelle Bright Lawson Summers and John A. Lawson, Sr. He attended Most Blessed Sacrament Elementary and graduated from St. Xavier High School. John served his country as a Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He was employed by Naval Ordnance as a machinist. He proceeded to go into business for himself as a real estate agent and home builder. Many homes and developments were built throughout the years. John was a Kosair Shriner.
John had many Navy stories and memories. He loved to dance with our Mom, loved to laugh and had many opinions about matters. He loved to have visitors, and his face would light up when his grandchildren and great-grandchildren would walk through his door.
John is preceded in death by his "Best Wife" and his love of 60 years, Shirley Ann Hempfling Lawson; his son, "Petey" who he is together with at last; his sister, Roseann Lawson; great-grandchildren, Jackson Randall, Evie Michele and son-in-law, Elmore Just. Heaven's Gate opened so he could now rejoice with his loved ones.
John is survived by his daughters and son-in-laws, Sandy Ruzanka (Danny), Lawren Just Garmon (Doug), Patti Mitchum (Rickey), Michele Mingus (Randy), Lisa Bush (Lee) and Julie Covert (Jay); 19 grandchildren, 48 Great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; his neighbors who are like children to him, Andrew and Jennifer Petty; his good friend, Ollie Brown; and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Monday, July 28, 2025 and on Tuesday, July 29th from 10am until 11am at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky. A celebration of John's life will be at the funeral home at 11am Tuesday with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the VA, Hosparus and Carebuilders. He had the best team for his care that you could ask for. These dedicated people were a wonderful, caring and personal group.
