John David Leaman, 85, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025. Born in Lancaster and raised in Refton, he was the son of the late John Walters and Ruth Mary (White) Leaman.
John was employed as a fireman with the Lancaster City Bureau of Fire from 1960 to 1996. He then went on to work as a salesman for GR Mitchell and J.C. Snavely, and was most recently employed by Bauer Fastener. John served in the Pennsylvania National Guard and he served as a past secretary of the Fireman's Association of the State of Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Slumbering Groundhog Lodge, American Legion Post 34, Amvets, Riverside Camping Association, Columbia Elks Club, and the 8th Ward Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed following and attending Penn State football games.
He is survived by a daughter, Kelly Jo (Dave) Gockley, of Lancaster, a granddaughter, Amy Aponte, of Lancaster, and a grandson, Aston Dommel, of Virginia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Snyder.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 4, at Dewald Funeral & Cremation Services, 227 West 4th Street, Quarryville, PA 17566, with a viewing at the funeral home from 1 PM – 2 PM.
Interment will follow the service in New Providence Mennonite Cemetery.
