John Leszczynski Obituary

John Leszczynski, of Needham and Port Richey FL, formerly of Hicksville NY, died on Monday, February 1, 2016 at his home. He was 97 years old. Born in New York, he was the son of the late Stanley and Josephine (Suska) Leszczynski. As a young child, his parents returned to their native Poland with their children. As a teenager, John returned to New York. He enlisted in the US Army in 1943 and proudly served his country in Okinawa and the Leyte Gulf in the Philippines. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his heroism. John was a proud American citizen. After being honorably discharged in December of 1945, John went to work as a cement mason. He retired from Eureka Construction in New York City, as a foremen. John worked on the restoration of the Statue of Liberty in the mid 1980's. He was a member of the Polish League of American Veterans and the Polish American Pulaski Association and was the world's best Polka dancer. Beloved husband for 63 years of Felicia A. (Kogut) Leszczynsk. Loving father of John Leszczynski and his wife Bente Larsen of Tiburon CA and Jeanne Leszczynski and her partner Diane DiCarlo of Needham. Brother of Wladek, Floral Park NY and the late Frank, Beatrice, Helen, Sue, Vincent, Joseph, Walenty and Regina. Grandfather of Nikolaj, Alex and Sander Leszczynski of Tiburon CA. Uncles of nieces Barbara and Laura and many other nieces and nephews. Also survived by his special friends, Hulio, Tammy and Pancho. A Funeral Service will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Avenue Needham on Thursday February 4 at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting on Thursday morning from 10 – 11 AM prior to the service. Interment with Military Honors at the MA National Cemetery in Bourne at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations in John's name may be made to the VA Boston Healthcare System, Volunteer Services, West Roxbury Campus, 1400 VFW Parkway, West Roxbury MA 02132 or the Polish American Pulaski Association, 4616 Darlington Road, Holiday FL 34691.

May you rest in peace Wujek Janek. I have great memories of you coming to Webster Pl .when Babci was alive. I always loved those visit. I remember when you and my dad would tease each other about everything and never got mad at each other.
