John H. Lichter, age 100, a lifelong resident of Naperville, IL, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024 at St. Patrick's Residence in Naperville. He was born September 26, 1924 in Naperville, IL.
Beloved husband of the late Florence (nee Hischer), whom he married February 26, 1949, loving father of John (Janice) Lichter of Anoka, MN, Cheryl (Kent) Martzan of Oswego, IL, Dawn (Stephan Crabtree) Lichter of Portland, OR and Holly (David) Hildenbrand of North Aurora, IL; adored grandfather of John Erich Lichter, Steven (Alice) Lichter, Scott (Mandy) Lichter, Kristen (Daniel) Desler, Paul Crabtree, Lindsey (Ernest) Syes, Haley (Adam) Beans, and Jacob (Rebecca) Hildenbrand, fond great-grandfather of Oscar, Hazel, Johnny and Billy Lichter, Caden and Piper Lichter, Oliver and Mae Desler, and David Beans; devoted son of the late John N. and Elizabeth (nee Thoman) Lichter, dear brother of the late Rich (the late Dorothy) Lichter of Naperville and the late Irving J. (the late Grace) Lichter, and brother-in-law of late Allen (the late Jeanette) Hischer, fond uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend of many.
John grew up in Naperville, attended SS. Peter & Paul School and graduated from Naperville High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the European Theatre.
Throughout his life John loved to garden and share the fruits of his labors.
For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to John's life, memorial donations may be directed to Honor Flight Chicago.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 9, 9:00-10:00 AM at St. Patrick's Residence, 1400 Brookdale Rd., Naperville. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM. Interment with military honors will be at SS Peter & Paul Cemetery, Naperville.
Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, was entrusted with arrangements.
