Jack was born in Algona, Iowa on December 27, 1933. Jack was born to Walter and Erma Lichter of Algona. Jack was a devout member of the Divine Mercy Catholic Parish. Jack graduated High School from Algona in 1952 and went on to play baseball at Iowa State University. In his freshman year in college, Jack had a devastating injury to his shoulder which ended his baseball career. After 3 years of college, in 1956, Jack enlisted in the United States Army and completed his basic training in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO.
Jack married Patricia Taylor in 1956 and shortly after their marriage, Jack was stationed at Fort Bliss, in El Paso, Texas. Jack was honorably discharged from the Army in 1958 and after returning home from the service, Jack went on to finish his college education at Iowa State University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree of Science on July 13, 1960. Jack worked as a salesman for multiple corporations throughout his work life. He lived in Ames, Ft. Dodge, Chicago, Cedar Rapids, Orlando, Kansas City and finally retiring to Algona in 1987.
Jack began with his love of sports in high school, where he played football, basketball and baseball. He was an outstanding pitcher and he threw two no-hitters during his high school playing years. Jack was also an avid golfer his entire life. He loved playing golf with his friends in Algona and the surrounding areas. At age 78 and 79, Jack shot his age golfing. Jack was also a HUGE Kansas City Chiefs and Iowa State Cyclones fan. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing bowling and golfing. It did not matter the sport, he enjoyed playing it in his early years and avidly watching it during his later years.
One of Jack's greatest joys was his Brushy Creek honor flight that took him and other veterans to Washington, DC to visit war memorials. Jack spoke of this flight and how proud he was to be a veteran and be able to participate.
Left to cherish Jack's memory is his daughter, Marci (Joe) Crawford; granddaughter, Kara (Cole) Teasley and great grandchildren, Brooke, Bailee and Bryce.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Walt and Erma Lichter and his son, John Michael Lichter.
