Max Brian Shipler was born on November 20, 1948 in Algona, Iowa. Max was the son of Earl and Eva (Stewart) Shipler. He grew up on the family farm east of Burt and was Baptized and Confirmed on December 19, 1977, in the Burt Presbyterian Church. He attended Burt Community School graduating in 1967. After graduation he attended mechanics school in Des Moines and worked at Charles Gabus Ford. At this time he was called to serve his country and was drafted into the US Marine Corp in 1968. He served in Vietnam until his time was up in 1970. He then returned home and continued to work as a mechanic at the Plymouth dealer in Des Moines. Later he was offered a position as a Snap-on Dealer. He began selling Snap-on Tools in the La Porte City, Iowa area.
In 1973 he was given the opportunity to become a field manager over several dealers. His love for selling and meeting people drew him back to the salesman position so he moved in 1976 to the Ankeny/ Johnston area and spent several years selling there. Due to some health issues with the good old Iowa winter weather he again sold his home and moved to a warmer climate in the Las Cruces, New Mexico area where he worked for 5 years. As the economy changed he knew he may need to look elsewhere so he took the time and traveled the country visiting many places to see where he might want to settle or where the need for Snap–on Tools was. He moved to Las Vegas NV and became a dealer for 9 ½ years.. He retired from Snap-on in 2010. He decided to get out of the big city and he moved to Purhump, NV and took up selling tools as an Independent dealer until fully retiring in 2015. Max's Snap-on career spanned over 40 plus years.
He always prided himself on having his truck full of tools so the customer could get the product immediately. His dedicated work ethic rewarded him with many top honors and awards from the Snap-on Tool Company for his dedication to selling their products. His antique tool truck was displayed at the Algona Snap-on plant for their 80th year celebration and later placed in the Snap-on Museum in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
He spent his retirement doing what he loved the most; traveling to museums, working on classic cars, spending time with his car club friends, organizing and going rides with them. Weekly he would meet his car friends at the Sonic restaurant as well as the every Saturday breakfast stop at "Ma's Diner" where he was known well by everyone. His days were spent with his numerous classic car loving friends and past Snap-on dealers, especially Allen Chapman. He would faithfully travel to Iowa each year to attend the classic car shows in Minneapolis and the Good Guys Car shows in Des Moines. His trips always included visiting family, friends and classmates.
Max is survived by his brother Boyd (Rosann) Shipler his sister-in-law Lois Shipler and many nieces and nephews.
Max is preceded in death by his parents: Earl and Eva Shipler, sister, Mary Lou Mankle and husband Don, brother Roger Shipler, sister Marcia Coco and husband Frank, nieces and nephews, Pam Meyers, Rachel Canadino, Brandon Mankle and Dawn Mankle.
