Leonard Louis Stenzel was born August 7, 1930, to William Stenzel and Ella Rike on a farm near Titonka, Iowa. He initially attended school in Titonka and then graduated from Burt High School in 1949 after the family had moved to a farm near Burt. He farmed after high school but then served in the Army in Germany for two years in the early 1950s.
On August 3, 1956, Leonard was united in marriage with Marlene Dremmel at the Burt Presbyterian Church. After their marriage their early life consisted of farming in the Burt area during which their children, Dawn and Joel were born.
In 1969, Leonard transitioned to banking, initially working at the Burt Savings Bank and then later Titonka Savings Bank as an officer and director. Leonard was very active in the Burt Presbyterian Church, serving many years as an elder and a Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Burt Lions Club for 50 years, often in charge of their annual birthday calendar.
During his free hours, he participated in the local bowling league. Other times he would often head to Minnesota fishing with his family. He also visited grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.
He retired from banking in 1994. During his last few years, he spent time in assisted living in Ankeny near his daughter and family.
Who is left to cherish Leonard's memory, are his daughter, Dawn Soderberg and her husband Chuck of Ankeny; his son, Joel Stenzel of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Adam Rogge, Alisha Lee, Maria (James) Thompson, Ian (Krysta) Stenzel, Alec (Libby) Stenzel; 8 great grandchildren; one sister, Linda (Jim) Edgington of Brandon, SD and sister-in-law, Eleanor Stenzel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; parents; a sister, Ruby Zinnel; and a brother, Elwyn Stenzel.
Memorials may be made in his memory to the Burt Presbyterian Church.
