John Nicholas Liguori, aged 72 of Nutley, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on July 2,2024 at Clara Mass hospital in Belleville, NJ. He was surrounded by his loving family. After graduating from Tom's River High school, John went on to the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York where he graduated with a bachelor's in architecture in 1976. John was a dedicated and passionate architect for 50 years. His early career began in the early 70's in Santa Barbara, California designing solar housing. An early advocate in the field of sustainable and climate friendly housing, John later moved to New York City where he worked for the rest of his career in the field of Architecture. His passion for design moved him into teaching interior design at Pratt Institute and the Parsons school of design, while also working on smaller design projects. John's career will always be defined by his work at numerous architectural firms in the New York area, including Greenberg Farrow and Urban Edge. He designed large commercial complexes around the New England area, but outside of these large scale projects he also managed to design small residential renovations. These buildings, complexes, houses, and designs will forever be his legacy. His designs have been featured in numerous publications including Architectural Digest. John was a deeply kind and caring man known for his good heart and love for everyone. A lifelong Mets fan, his interests also included traveling, gardening, cooking and eating- John loved to eat! John was such a kind, caring and thoughtful man. I had the pleasure of meeting John in 2011 when we were involved in designing a new space for . a church he was a member of. He always asked such insightful questions and probably was the most patient person I have met. Just last week he was concerned about some loose trim on the wooden pews and politely asked if we could repair them. In true John fashion he had quietly and diligently marked each area that needed our attention. I wish there were more folks like John in this world. John certainly made the world a better place. He will be sorely missed.
