Dover-Foxcroft - John A. Lockhart passed away peacefully September 7, 2025,at Northern Light Mayo Hospital, after battling a long illness.

John was born in West Hartford, CT on June 2, 1952. He grew up in Greenwich, CT. with his adoptive parents, the Lockharts, and his beloved Aunt Lorraine. As a youth, John loved to be out on the water, spending many happy hours in his motorboat on Long Island Sound, catching fish and grilling them on the beach. As a young man, he worked as a cook in several popular restaurants in the area.

After moving to Maine in the 1980's, John worked for 13 years as a manager and doughnut maker at the Dunkin Donuts in Ellsworth. He later worked as a seasonal maintenance worker at Acadia National Park.

In 2004, John and his partner, Brenda, moved to Dover-Foxcroft, where they established a home in a town they grew to love. For eight years, John worked at Pleasant River Lumber as a millworker. After retiring, he loved to ride his bicycle around the streets of Dover-Foxcroft, and his motorcycle along the miles of country roads outside of town. In the afternoons, John could often be found sitting on his porch, watching the sunset over the Piscataquis River nearby. John was full of life, humor and loving kindness. He will be sadly missed by those who loved him.

He is survived by his life partner of 22 years, Brenda Gott of Dover-Foxcroft and her three daughters, Emily Flaherty of Lincolnville, and Amanda Kaler and Crystal Fae, both of Warren, and their families, who had all become his family.

A private celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
