John Phillip Loftin was born on July 9, 1942, in Carnegie, Oklahoma, to Hank and Faye Loftin. He passed away peacefully at his home in Temple, Oklahoma, on December 13, 2025, at the age of 83.
John spent his early childhood in Carnegie, attending school there through the fourth grade before moving to Temple, Oklahoma, where he completed his education. A proud Temple Tiger, John loved basketball and graduated with the Class of 1960.
Following high school, John entered the workforce and began a 20-year career with Panhandle Steel, later known as the Texas Division of Tranter. He served as Purchasing Agent, overseeing purchasing, shipping, and quality control operations. After retiring, John pursued farming for seven years, working land in Henrietta, Texas; Temple, Oklahoma; and Cookie Town, Oklahoma. He later began a second career as an insurance agent with Texas Farm Bureau, serving Knox County, Texas, for 23 years while living in Munday, Texas.
John was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed snow skiing, camping, golf, fishing, and spending time outdoors. Above all, John adored his wife, Betty, and cherished every moment spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nothing filled his heart more than being surrounded by family, with whom he shared laughter, stories, and a lifetime of love.
John often spoke of his grandfather, Grandpa Phillips, who was the greatest influence in his life. Today, they are reunited once again, together in peace.
John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Dobbs Loftin; his son, Phil Loftin and wife Mary Jane of Munday, Texas; his daughter, Amy Reynolds and husband Kyle of Nocona, Texas; and his cousin, Jim Mumford and wife Carol of Walters, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Taylor Ibarra and husband Emanuel of Nocona, Texas; Lance Reynolds of Irving, Texas; Lane Loftin and wife Chelsea of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; and Aaron Loftin and wife Kara of Seymour, Texas. He leaves behind eight great-grandchildren: Isla and Callan Ibarra; Levi, Marleigh, and Amrie Loftin; and Knox and Korbett Loftin.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Hank and Faye Loftin, and his brother, Jim Loftin.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice staff—Maci, Brittany, Ursula, Penny, and Ariel—as well as Dr. Katy and the church family for the love, care, and support shown during this difficult time.
Donations can be made in John's memory to fund cancer research.
