Mr. John Orien Long, age 95, died Friday, August 22, 2025 followed by his loving wife of 74 years, Mrs. Jewel Sheppard Long, age 94 who joined him Sunday, August 24, 2025. Funeral services for both John and Jewel will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at 11am at Enon Baptist Church with Rev. Curtis Rich, Rev. Josh Powell and Minister David May officiating and Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing. Burial will follow in Enon Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10-11am.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Josh Barbaree, Jeremy Barbaree, James Jordan, Eric Jordan, Robbie Price, and Dee Price. Serving as honorary pallbearer is John Harden.

Mr. Long was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He proudly served his country and was a Korean War Veteran. After returning home, he started his own business, Long's Refrigeration in 1955. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and traveling and was a member of Enon Baptist Church.

Mrs. Long was a loving wife who worked alongside her husband as the office manager of Long's Refrigeration and was also a member of Enon Baptist Church. She loved to cook and was always searching for new recipes. She loved spending time with her family.

John was preceded in death by parents: Jacob Lee and Emma Barr Long; siblings: Rosa Mae Botts, Naomi Hatfield, Jewel Brown, Otis Long and Leotha Long. Jewel was preceded in death by parents: Joseph Allen and Lilla Ruth Sheppard. Together they were preceded by son, Cody Lane Long and granddaughter, Billie Ann Walker.

They are survived by grandson, Richard Long (Whitney); five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and Mrs. Jewel's sisters: Marie Fleming (James) and Carolyn Jordan.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to caregivers: Karen Hilton, Susie Baker, Lashonda Smith and Michelle Phillips, as well as Enhabit Hospice nurse Kay Grantham for their dedication and compassion during the last years of their lives.
