John Macchi, age 93, a cherished pillar of the Milford and Hopedale communities, passed away at the age of 93 on December 13, 2023, after a period of declining health. Born in
Milford, MA, on May 18, 1930, John's journey through life was marked by his unwavering kindness, generosity, and selfless nature.
John was the beloved husband of Edith M. (Buck) Macchi, with whom he shared a remarkable 72 years of devoted marriage. Together, they navigated the ebbs and flows of life, creating a legacy of love and family that will forever be remembered. He was a loving father to Donna Macchi-Briggs of Hopedale, Robert Macchi and his wife Carol of Douglas, and the late John Macchi. His daughter-in-law Frances Macchi also held a special place in his heart. John took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Brandy Hart, Robert Briggs, Valeria Junlei, Jason Macchi, Erik Macchi, Heather Macchi, and Meghan Macchi. His brother Joseph Macchi and wife Patricia of Worcester will cherish the memories of their times together.
John's commitment to education was evident in his pursuit of knowledge, earning several degrees from a variety of schools. His intellectual curiosity and sharp mind were hallmarks of his character throughout his life.
His work history was as diverse as it was distinguished. John bravely served as a gunner and medic during the Korean War, demonstrating his courage and dedication to his country. Following his military service, he joined Draper Corporation, where he worked diligently until his retirement from Mason Neilan. His colleagues will remember him as a man of integrity and a mentor to many.
Beyond his professional and military achievements, John will be remembered for his extraordinary character. He was a man with a heart of gold, whose kindness and generosity knew no bounds. John's modesty was a testament to his character, never seeking recognition for his countless acts of kindness. He was a gentle and loving soul, whose warmth and compassion touched the lives of everyone he met.
John's interests were as varied as they were rich. He was a kind man who gave freely of himself to others, embodying the true essence of selflessness. His gentle and loving nature was a comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 29 at 10 AM at St. Mary Church, 77 Mendon Street, Uxbridge followed by interment at Lakeview Cemetery, Upton.
